Google releases its local search in China
The domain name can be seen as a integration of Chinese and English. “bendi” is a phoneticize in Chinese which means local.
Though the name is somewhat strange, the service it provides is really useful. The data is not very ample now but I am sure after some time it will be very useful when we need to find some place in the city.
Do you remember the site:? http://www.go2map.com? It has been bought by sohu. But after two months of the purchase I still can’t see any change of it.
No doubt. Try to enter the bendi.google.com in your browser and use it.

Wireless fiber communication
Today I attended a meeting of wireless fiber communication which is interesting. You know if we need a high bandwidth network we will consider using fiber. Comparing to the normal twisted-pair line, fiber can provide the bandwidth of more than 1G (can be expanded to 10G or even more).
But in some situation, we can?? set up a fiber connection easily because it must build a physical line between the two points. For example it is nearly impossible to do this in the center of modern cities. So we need something which can replace it. Now the wireless fiber technology makes it come true.
In short, we can think the wireless fiber as true fiber line which is built by ray. The ray is in the range of infrared band. So it requires the two points are in one beeline and must not have handicap(s) in middle.
Within one hour, a pair of wireless fiber sets can be built up. This rapidness makes it very suitable to set temporary connections and needs high bandwidth which normal ADSL or FTTH can?? supply. Another usage is large enterprises. If the big company has several buildings which are not very far away from each other (within 3-5 kilometers), this resolvent is very appropriate.
In the end of meeting we filled a questionnaire and had a gift. It contains two small things: one is a mini optical notebook mouse; the other is a telescopic network cable. They are all applied to me and make me happy:P
Hmm, the website of this company is http://www.lightpointe.com. if you are interest with it, have a look.

I miss those days(1)
I just calculated the disk usage of QQ (a very popular instant message software in China, like ICQ/MSN/AIM), the result is 140M. It surprises me much and makes me remember the old days.
In those days I even had not seen any x86 PCs. I joined a interest class for the first touch of computer. The most advanced machine is AppleII which we could not use because our level was not enough and they were the appropriative ones of senior class. Before each class I walked pass the AppleII room and had a look into it. Oh, it was so mysterious!
In those days I used a PC manufactured by IBM. It had no hard disk but only two 5.25 inch floppy disk driver which can read 360k floppy disks. I remember the day I copied the great tool called PCTOOLS from a senior classmate and type PCT in dos command prompt. In that day I was the most welcome person in class because only I had this tool (even our young teacher had no experiences about it) and everyone want to see what it can do.
In those days PC is luxurious for common family. We used floppy disks to exchange software and games with each other. Though the 3.5 inch floppy was more convenient but also expensive, we still preferred the 5.25 inch ones more. Because the capacity of them is different and can?? be duplicated easily, we were so exciting when use HD-COPY which is the first software can fully copy the contents in a 3.5 inch floppy to a 5.25 inch one.
To be continues…
