Good PC sofware: DeskTask
I have kept looking for software which can display tasks and calendars in desktop for years. Not so powerful I want it to be, but can satisfy the points below:
- Good compatibility with Outlook. This is the most important and must be thing. I used Outlook as my PIM center for a long time(3 to 5 years maybe). By it, I organize my contacts, arrange my calendars and to-dos, keep some notes at hand, etc. And my Treo650 is hot synced with Outlook, too. So If one desktop is perfect by cannot access the data of Outlook, I have to pass it.
- Small system resources occupancy. Yes I have 1G ram in my notebook. But it is still a poor P3 machine and cannot afford too much.
- Refresh automatically. A small but must function. I want to see the current task without click anything.
Before DeskTask I have tried many others. The most famous one is ADC(Active Desktop Calendar) which is recommended by many friends. But when using ADC, even you do not open any Outlook window, you can still find it in Windows task manager by press ctrl+alt+del. And sometimes it will cause Outlook’s problems. Thanks DeskTask. It has all the above 3 functions I mentioned. What’s more:
- Small. The green version I offered is only 350KB.
- Free. It’s a freeware. You need not pay some $ for register or use piratical version.
OK here is the green version I made. Enjoy! DeskTask_Free_cjGreen.rar PS: This green version only supports two languages: English and Simplified Chinese. If you need others, download the official version.

Tks 4 the msg u sent. I occasionally view your blog, tidy & simplicity. And u frequently update it, very impressive. (Surely, compare to mine.)I never leave
any comments before coz I’m a bit laid-back. This software is ideal for important events reminder, should be very useful. Will install it, and give u feedback if i have any.
Yes it is the best software (or say most suitable for me) I have ever seen. What’s more, it is freeware.
Thanks CJ. It’s really a nice software.
