Vista, ready or not
After the RTM(Release to manufacturing) version, it seems Vista has been so hot that if you do not install and try one, others would think you are from mars:) Of course Vista looks very very very beautiful (I used 3 very here), and it is greatly imporved everywhere. But as a platform for work, I still suggest you, think carefully, before you are ready for it. I have tried nearly every version leaked out until RTM. So if you want to USE Vista instead of play, reading this article maybe a good idea. This can saving much of your time, because I am sure you will meet some same problems as me. First, is your hardware ready for Vista? The most important thing is … not CPU, not display card, but MEMORY.
If you have 256M, Hmm, I suggest you give up, you can still installed it with some tricks. But after it you have to do many optimize work, in order to let it run a notepad.
If 512M, Vista can run and you can do nearly everything on it. But in most (maybe I should say all) games, you will notice the speed is greatly … DECREASED! It will be more significant under the aero effects.
1G, OK, Vista can run in your PC rapidly. But because the games we playing today are generally designed for XP. So they do not perform so well under Vista. Of course the normal usage like browsing, email, chtting, … is good enough. Notice the points below, if you want to use Vista as main platform:
e-Banks. Many Bank’s websites use active-x. While Vista comes with IE7 which is not very compatible with those active-x. We can expect the correction in the future. But at least they can not be used today.
Drivers under Vista x64. The old drivers are all x32, no matter they are design for Win2000 or WinXP. If you install Vista x64, you should make sure that all your hardware have x64 drivers. Maybe I should say something about the activation or crack? Hehe, if someone interests.
