Upgrade my N410c to 768M

Hmm, after the painful 48 hours, I feel good again.

Found that I can not bear the speed of only 256m memory in my notebook: the harddisk led is always red and it is always making noise… Maybe someone would say it is just a old P3 one and 256m is really enough for it. But I don’t think so.

In most situation, the amount of memory is much much more important than the CPU frequency. By other words, you would notice the P3-1.2G+512m machine is faster than P4-1.8G+256m for common usage.

After the cycle of 512m->256m->768m, I validated the two fact:

  1. P3 is really enough for me.
  2. I really need large mamory.

What’s the benefit?

Now I build a virtual ram disk of 128m for temp use, just like the system temporary directory and the internet explorer cache. As everyone knows, the speed of memory is over 10 times faster than disk.

And by the 768m memory and 80g disk. I can use VMware to set a virtual network for test purpose. Active Directory, Exchange… I will study for them.

    i have added 512mb memory to my laptop this term too, hy pc2700 ddr333 512mb, it costs me only 315rmb, hah~~ but my harddisk makes me mad, only 40gb, i can’t even install a linux on my disk, there’s no space left… my notebook is an old celeron one.

    The situation is, format more old, price more high. DDR2 < DDR < SDRAM.
    harddisk space is enough for me in fact. I changed it from 40gb to 60 then 80, just because it is free, hah~~

    free change of your harddisk? cool! i’ve used my laptop for more than 2 and half years, the cpu fan sounds like there’s something wrong with it, if it won’t broke, i’ll change my harddisk to a larger capacity one later.

    Yeah it is free, heihei. I think the fan of your laptop is just run out of oil…

    but how to refill it with new oil? i opened the cover on the backside of my laptop, found that there’s no specific point to refill oil, do i have to completely disassemble my laptop? by the way, the fan was made by toshiba.

    use an injector, haha. Or you can consider to buy a same type of the fan.

    Hi, it’s good to know that someone else is also crazy enough to run vmware on a n410c. It’s a good notebook and seems to run as fast as a t40!

    Yeah, I am sure that my n410c is much more faster than most of those T4x(s), hehe
