Paypal vs alipay

I touched the e-business (trade by internet) very early, maybe belong to the first group in China. The first famous website is 8848.net which closed for a long time after an accident collective resignation and re-opened then but few people visit it. I bought a MP3-CD player and some small gifts in it and be familar with B2C (Business to Customer, always a company sells its goods to customer directly).

The most popular mode is C2C (Customer to Customer, always trade between two person). The most famous websites are ebay.com.cn and taobao.com. They both are not simple: ebay.com.cn called eachnet.com before and was the No.1 C2C site in China, then it was bought by the ebay.com (the largest in the world) and became its Chinese site. taobao’s background is alibaba.com which is the best B2B (Business to Business, always trade between two company) one.

C2C is different from B2B and B2C. Just it is without the letter “B” which means the company. Because the trade occurs between person, the security is always the most important thing. So the ebay and taobao both have their tools to prevent cheat.

Paypal is widely used in the world and is the defacto standard in worldwide C2C trading. Ebay decided to develop a system like paypal until it seems no hope to replace paypal, then ebay bought it:) Alipay is the product of Alibaba.com and after several year’s improvement it has been steady.

Paypal announced to enter China a few days ago but I think it still has many things to do like the multi currency. And it is said taobao is preparing to move from Hangzhou to Shanghai to challenge to the ebay directly. The next year will be the most important time between ebay and taobao to capture the No.1 seat. The paypal and alipay, I think, will be the key to determine who will win this great battle.

My bet is that taobao will defeat ebay in China and alipay will be much more popular.
